Air Rifles
Air Rifles for any skill level
Air rifles are a great way to get started in the world of hunting. They're also a great way to learn gun safety and hone your target skills.
Horsley Park Gun Shop is home to an array of air rifles from top brands that are perfect for your hunting and target practice needs. Whatever you're after, we've got a gun to suit your air rifle needs.
Air Rifle features and uses
Air rifles come in all shapes, sizes, and calibres. There is an air rifle that will fit your needs regardless of your skill level or experience. They are available with a wide variety of features and uses. Some are made specifically for hunting and target shooting, while others are designed for pest control.
They can be classified into two main categories: spring-piston, which uses a compression spring to propel pellets, and pre-charged pneumatic (PCP), which compresses air between the compressor (the gun) and the reservoir (the tank). In some cases, they can also be classified by their action as either single shot or repeater.
Spring-piston air rifles are the most common type of air rifle. They use a metal coil spring to compress air inside a tube that runs down the length of the barrel. The compressed air forces a pellet out of the barrel when you pull the trigger. These guns are often used for pest control because they're inexpensive, easy to maintain and relatively safe to use around people and animals. Also, if you're going after small game like squirrels or rabbits, then you want a light-weight air gun that can travel farther than other guns of similar calibre. A spring piston break barrel rifle would be ideal in this case because it requires less pressure to cock the firing pin than a CO2 powered gun does. The more power an air rifle has, the more energy it takes to cock it and fire it again until there's no more pressure left in its tank or cartridge.
On the other hand, pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) air rifles have become more popular in recent years due to their high muzzle velocities and accuracy. Their operation is similar to that of a paintball gun, they're powered by an external air source that's connected via hose to an onboard tank filled with compressed gas such as CO2 or nitrogen. So if you're not looking to shoot longer distances with an airgun, then a CO2 gun might be better suited for your needs than a spring piston break barrel gun.
Air rifles also come in a wide range of calibres ranging from .177 (.17) all the way up to .50, which is also referred to as 50 calibre. The higher the number, the bigger the pellet that it shoots. They are available in both single shot and multishot models, so choose one depending on how much ammunition you want to carry around with you when hunting or target practicing at home.
We stock a large range of the best air rifles from some of the most popular brands including Diana, Gamo, Stoeger and many more.
